Flashback Friday – 1/22/10

Happy Friday All! After paying tribute to the late Teddy Pendergrass last week, I am back to throwing some random old school Hip Hop and R&B at you all this week. Today’s blog features old cuts from Cherrelle, Cece Peniston, Donell Jones, Joe Public and Yo-Yo. As I was looking up these videos and actually listening to the content, it actually made me sad about today’s music. If you’ve read my old blog, “Will Work For Good Music”, you’ll understand why. I mean, the beats from the past might not be as hot in some cases, but the lyrical content was about something at least! I digress. For example, Donell Jones’ song ‘Where I Wanna Be’ was real talk. Saying he’d rather leave the woman he was with because there were too many temptations facing him, but instead of cheating, he broke up with her. Even though it hurt her and him, he still ended up coming back. after he “sowed his royal oats”, lol.  How many folks do you know who have been in that situation? (BTW-I still believe that Mr. Jones is very underrated…where are all my Donell fans at?! )And Joe Public’s song talking about living and learning. Nobody does that anymore. They make mistakes…..and then make them again for whatever reason. No learning whatsoever. Smh. Then we have Yo-Yo telling dudes they can’t play with her “yo-yo”. I think y’all are smart enough to know what she’s talking about. This was like a the ladies anthem when it came out. Tellin the fellas at the clubs and parties that if you touch my “yo-yo” without consent, I’m stompin you out!  Haha. Anyway, please enjoy these old school tunes and take a second to vote, suggest and comment on them. Have a blessed weekend! 🙂

Flashback Friday – 1/8/10 – Cornball Edition

Happy Friday All! Its the end of the first full week of the New Year. How are those resolutions coming along? You quit yet?!?! Lol, just kidding. Anyway, today’s Flashback Friday has a theme to it. I call it, the “Cornball Edition”. Why? Just watch the videos and listen to the songs and you tell me! The majority of the songs I post every Friday, at least in my opinion, are songs you can still rock to and proudly sing out loud or nod your head to without shame. Can’t say the same about the videos posted today, lol. I dare all you Fif Followers, to blast the songs I’m posting out of your car stereo or loudly through your headphones at the gym and see if you get any side eye looks, haha. Today’s blog features infamous throwbacks from Kriss Kross, MC Hammer, Milli Vanilli, Sir Mix A Lot and Vanilla Ice. Ok, I won’t lie–I bumped some Kriss Kross as a youngin’ and they were a hot little duo when they were out, but looking back now I still have to wonder why their mamas let them walk around with their clothes on backwards all the time. SMH. Show of hands for anyone out there who owned pair of those Hammer style parachute pants!! Those of you who still own them, I’m praying for you. I wanted to post the video “Girl You Know Its True” by Milli Vanilli, because its just terrible, but it didnt embed correctly, so here’s a warning for all you young males out there who are a part of the skinny jeans fad: be mindful of just how tight your pants are getting or else you could end up wearing spandex like pants like Milli Vanilli and nobody wants that. I can do this all day, but I will leave you all to watch the videos and take it back for a few minutes to ask yourself, “what were they thinking?”. Comment, suggest and vote for  the corniest video/song of the day! Have a blessed weekend! 🙂

Flashback Friday – 11/27

Happy Friday All! Please forgive me for putting the blog up so late. Between the tryptophan hangover, all the cooking, cleaning and shopping I’ve done in the last 72 hours, I am running on fumes, so you can blame Thanksgiving  and Black Friday for that! I dont have much to say about the randomly selected videos I’m posting up today because, well, I’m still not fully functioning right now, lol. Today, I present to you a handful of songs some may have never heard or haven’t heard in a long time, from Boyz II Men, Changing Faces, Chi Ali, MC Breed, Nona Gaye. Just a few notes to add on the artists for today FYI. Changing Faces is making a coming back—don’t know how that come back will go, but they are, lol. Chi Ali is the little brother of Dres from the 90’s rap group “Blacksheep” (who has been featured on a past FF blog), rapper MC Breed (real name Eric Breed) passed away last year at almost this very date (11.22.08) and Nona Gaye is the daughter of the legendary singer Marvin Gaye. So if you didn’t know, now ya know. Please enjoy these songs, comment, vote and suggest. Have a blessed weekend! 🙂

Flashback Friday – 11/20

Happy Friday All! How is everyone’s Friday going? Most likely wonderfully because it IS Friiiiiiidaaaaay after all and most likely payday! With that said, I will gladly set up an account for donations for all this internet DJing I do for y’all if you want, :D. Today’s blog features Case, Lost Boyz, Oaktown 357, Tony Terry and Warren G. Song of the day though in my opinion, goes to Oaktown 357. That beat, the rhymes, the dances, the style had me LOL and made me think, what the h*ll were they thinking?? Lol. I won’t knock it though, thats what was hot back then. And just watching the Warren G video has me realizing that Nate Dogg was the West Coast version of T-Pain back in the day. Minus the Autotune, top hat and Big A$$ Chain of course, lol. Enjoy today’s songs, vote, suggest, comment and have a blessed weekend. 🙂

*Exits outta the firescape*

Case – Touch Me, Tease Me (1996)

Lost Boyz – Jeeps, Lex Coupes, Bimaz & Benz (1995)
